What is the best and quietest CPU fan for a 3200+ AMD processor?

If you want quiet, go passive. The Scythe Ninja can be operated passively (your proc should be fine under passive mode) or you could strap a Nexus fan on it. If you wanted to take it a step further, you could even undervolt the Nexus to get it even quieter.

What he said. If you do not want to spend the money on the ninja plus nexus fan, you could pick up the Zalman 7700 at 5volts I run around 37 C and 48 C load on my X2 3800.

Compares the 7700AlCu and xp120 with some numbers..
most important for quiet is the 22db with the zalman at 5v

ninja wiht a nexus fan at 7v, <17db which is as quiet as they can measure.

nexus fans are expensive imo get a yateloon fan (they actually produce the nexus fan) the only difference is the yateloon will spin at 1200rpm not 1000rpm as the nexus does... but that doesn't matter, just give the yateloon 5v and it will be comparable to a nexus at 7v.

oh yea 17db is insanely quiet, somewhere the reviewer on spcr says how they do the measurements that low... they have to wait till 3am or something because cars 2 blcoks away raise the ambient noise too much to do measurements. Really imo I think most people would consider anything under 21-22db all 'silent'
