Hi,

I'm looking for a new PSU to run 2 x 8800GTX Sli and overclocked e8400 - and perhaps be future proof for triple SLI.

I'm looking at what I expect to be the usual suspects;

Corsair HX1000 (only one that could do triple sli I think)
TT Toughpower 1000
Akasa Powermax 1000

Which is the quietest? I figure the Corsair is the best?

Quietest I have seen so far is the Coolermaster RealPower Pro 1000w.

Thanks Paul.

What's the difference between the

Real Power M1000

and the

Real Power Pro 1000

apart from the Pro being more expensive, not component and not really available yet in the UK?

I can't see any difference in specs. Also I guess I could go for the 850W?

I don't think anyone can say for sure about the Corsair 1000w unit yet as no one has one to review... but I'm betting it will be pretty quiet with it's 140mm fan.

<EDIT>

Yikes, [H] did get a review sample in and posted a review on the 21st of April. Apparently it's the loudest Corsair model they've had on the bench yet, although compared to most other PSUs in the 1000w range it's still on the quiet end of things.

They are the same unit except for the modular aspect. The modular isn't available directly in the US.

I have an Ultra X3 1000W.
It powers my OC Quad 6600, three 8800 GTXs, and my watercooling stuff; all with no effort at all.

I have 5 120mm case fans and two 120mm fans on my radiator. I can never hear the PSU and the computer is surprisingly quiet overall.

This Ultra is a great unit, modular and not very big.

I'd give it some real thought. It got good reviews here on the [H] as well.:D

Hi,

I use the Galaxy 1000W from Enermax modded with PAPST fans.... this makes it a lot more quiet than the stock fans used by Enarmax.... It is used in a cabinet that has 2 x 120 mm + 1 x 80 mm case fans.

My mobo runs at 36 degrees C (25 degrees C in the room) so I guess the cooling works ok.

I can tell you after running the CoolerMaster RPP 1kw for about 6 months now, that it's the quietest pus that I've ever used, that includes units having less than half the power.
