I have a Shuttle SFF. It has a Gigabyte GV-R96X128D 9600XT Videocard in it.

The computer is very loud and sometimes one of the fans makes wierd and inconsistant noise so I opened it up to see if a wire was hitting it or something. I found out that the PSU and main fan (cools the CPU thru a heat pipe) are very quiet, the video card fan is what's making all the noise.

I was wondering if there's a way to either slow this fan down or replace it with something quieter. 98% of my computer usage is websurfing and other 2d programs, the remaining 2% is playing Q3A for about an hour a week.

So what can I do? Is there another HSF that will fit on the Gigabyte GV-R96X128D 9600XT Videocard? Will it be easier to remove the stock one? Here's a link to it's picture: http://www.bigbruin.com/reviews/gigabyte9600xt/

It would be great if I could quiet this thing, I'm used to having a laptop that I keep running all the time, but this computer is just too loud right now to watch TV with it running.
 
On your Shuttle, where is the AGP slot? Do you have room for a double wide card?

If you have room for a double wide card, then look into the Arctic Cooling solutions. I have one on my 9800pro and it hardly makes any noise. Plus it pushes the air out the back.

My AGP slot is the last one, closest to the side of the case. I can actually see the blue light on the video card's fan thru the grill on the side. So unfortunately one of those isn't going to work.
 
This Jetart product is getting good reviews. It is the same as Vantec's new Iceberq5. As far as I know, it is a single-slot design, offers a lot of surface area, and claims to be quiet.
 
What about some type of cheap, old fashion HSF that will fit? From what I remember, my video cards didn't make much noise at all. I remember my Radeon 8500 being almost silent.

I'm just looking for something cheap and easy (and of course quiet).
 
Old fashion? Sometimes they're noisier... I fit a passive chipset heatsink onto my 8500LE, works great, but takes up two slots. Nothing wrong with that Jetart I linked you with up there.
 
Well I remember the older cards having small HSF's that were totally quiet, that's what I'm looking for.

For now, I just unplugged the fan on my card, even after a game of Q3A the heat sink is barely warm.
 
You could try and mod a 1U passive cooler. Could work.
 
Since it's working pretty well now with a disabled HSF, a passive HS would probably work well. There is a lot of airflow in that area since there is a large vent right next to the video card and the large fan on the back exchanges the air from the small case rather quickly.

Now i just need to find a passive HS that will install easily on my video card.
