Hey guys. I am working on a new build that will be used primarily for video encoding, but I want the ability to play games as well. I would like to find a really quiet, but powerful card. I would rather run 2 quiet cards in crossfire or sli than something noisy. Anyone got any recommendations?

Everybody has different measurements of "Quietness" My 4870 with fan on auto never gets "loud" or i can manually set it to run at 10-15% and i wont hear it over my case fans, or you could go for a gtx260, i hear they are pretty quiet as well.

Any card can be quiet with the right fan profile :)

You can make custom ones... =D

4870+AC Accelero S1+120mm fan.

Will be absolutely silent if you get the right fan.

I need to look into some of those, my 4890s are driving me up a friggan wall because they're so damn loud.

I'd argue that. Many cards are still relatively loud even with the fan turned down, and the temperatures are still high. My 4870 (which was one of the early Sapphire ones, from what I understand, newer ones are quieter) is loud even with a fan profile that makes the card idle at almost 80 degrees.

Id just get the card you want and pop a VF900 on it my 9600GSO's are deadsilent.

To be honest if you want the "m3, m5, corvette, evo, sti," etc.. for your video card its gonna be audible. Just like how an m3, corvette, evo, sti, etc.. has bumpy ass suspension and louder exhausts its gonna be loud; for most high end video cards since they create a lot of heat when running 3d applications and the fan must compensate for that. You can change that if you decide to change to aftermarket cooling,

However if you go with a cheap card like the 4350 then you just crippled your gaming ability. If all you want to do is run videos then just pick up a 4350 or a 9400gt since for videos really its all your cpu and what not.

Tbh like a few people have already said, get the card you want and just slap an aftermarket cooler on it.

Due to my recent personal experience with an HD 4850 and an Akasa Neo Vortex I vote for this HSF as it exhausts the heat out of your case, lights up blue, is very quiet and does a damned good job at cooling :)
