Quiet Release?? Core i7-990X

EE's have always had quiet releases. You always hear about them through forums, not really through news sites. And I think it was released last week.

I have seen news of it's release on some enthusiast sites but your right it has been relatively low key as would be expected for a minor speed bump.

There have been some other shakeups in the LGA1366 line too, afaict the 950 is being phased out (though it hasn't yet been discontinued), the 960 has dropped into the ~$300 range and the 970 has dropped into the ~$600 range. I haven't heard anything about the future of the 980x but I suspect it will also be gradually phased out (though it may become like the 975x, a chip that remains availiable for ages at a very unattractive price point).

no need to advertise it ;)

Most people that are into intel extreme cpus are all over this new cpu.

Too much money for my sick tastes.

It wouldn't be in Intel's favor to widely publicize it due to the insane price tag.

The enthusiasts who have the dough to spend, know about it.

Holy crap.......1k for a cpu. I nearly spit Mtn dew all over my work monitor........

Not the first, won't be the last.

It's pretty common for the most high-end Intel chips to be $1k+.

You should go look at some high-end server CPUs if you want a shocker in price.

the EE chips also always stay at the same crazy price...never any discounts...maybe $1000 down to $995 at most...so be prepared to pay for the luxury of owning an Intel Extreme Edition chip

end of the year (mind you might be scrapped after i7-990). Yes end of Feb. is release date. Suppose to overclock 5.2 ghz on air.
