Looking for quiet rackmount chassis. I am building 2 2U servers and one 4U workstation for a SOHO, so it needs to be quiet. The last system I built was used a 2U Chenbro case that sounds like a friggin jet engine! Anyone have any suggestions? Can I get a quiet case stock, or will I have to go in with careful parts shopping? Thx.

I think 2U and quiet are mutually exclusive.
I have some dual pIII 2U servers that only have a few quiet 80mm fans in them as cooling and are pretty quiet. Either that or the fans in the other 7 boxes drown them out.

Yeah, server cases aren't meant to be quiet.

You're better off buying one, and makeing it quiet with additional parts than hopeing to buy one that's quiet.

I have a small cluster of 2-4U rackmount servers in my office. First off, the stock fans they pack in are stupid loud. You need to worry a bit on air flow, but not much beyond a normal case. Many of the chassis seem to assume you are trying to cool a quad cpu setup. The power supplies tend to be loud as well. The 4U chassis usually can take any ATX PS, so quality there goes a long way.

Racks work great for watercooling as well. I run stock speeds, but don't like noise. Lots of room to manuver in 19" stack.

What's with using stupid as a magnfier? If someone was really smart, would you call him "stupid smart"?

Back to topic at hand: bascially there isn't one. As others have said, get one and some Vantec stealths. I don't know where to find quiet 2u psus.

I tried using stupid as a magnifier, but I still couldn't read the fine print.

In my experience, all rack-mount cases are very quiet ... because they're in a different room.

mikeblas has the right idea. I have a rack at home...It's almost full of 4U and a 2U box. The 4Us have two 120mm fans; some are quiet and some are not.

The 2U is loud. It's going to be loud. Airflow is hard to do properly in the thing; get used to it.

Also, there are some 2u cases that will let you use a standard ATX supply (I have one). That way you can put whatever quiet supply you want in there.
