I'm looking at getting a 2400+ to drop into my old system, just as a cheap upgrade that will give a good bit of performance. I think I'm going to get a Mobile, since it's only a few bucks more and runs at a lower voltage, but I'm not sure yet.
Part of my justification for this is that my current CPU fan is going bad and getting pretty loud. I've got an Alpha PAL6035 with a a Globalwin sticker on the fan. I want to say it was listed as a YS fan though. It's been a long time and I don't remember details anymore. =)
I don't mind overclocking, but I probably won't do much. This is going into a 133MHz SDRAM system, so there's not a whole lot of headroom for me to overclock even if I want to. I've got the PC sitting on my corner desk almost right next to my head, so I'm going for quiet. I don't need 100% silent, but the 747 thing is out.
Is the Tr2TT Tr2M1 any good? It says it's rated up to 3400+, but it seems really cheap too. I'm looking for decent performance, but still pretty quiet. Any suggestions are appreciated.
