Quiet cooling questions

Still in the planning phase of my build (actual build will be in october), I have a couple of questions regarding cooling.

First things first, the CPU will be a Q9450 or Q9550 (due to the recent price drop, probably the latter), mobo will be a GA-EP45-DS3R and the case a Lian Li PC-A09B. The build should be semi-silent (not absolutely fanless... can't afford that) because it'll be used for audio editing.

  1. How quiet are the included case fans?
  2. How quiet is the Q9450/Q9550 boxed fan?
  3. Should a replacement CPU cooler be needed, is the Thermalright SI-128 SE any good --- and more importantly: Will it fit this case and motherboard?
  4. The Enermax UCCL12 Cluster fan seems to be a nice PWM fan, has anyone got any experience using these?

I have had several Lian li cases and the fans that come with it work but are not quiet. They are not overly loud either but if you want silence you will have to swap them out.

The box heatsink should not give you problems, I would look more at a quiet psu. I went to great lengths to quiet my PC and messed up with the PSU. Its the loudest thing in my system.

I don't think the Thermalright SI-128 SE will fit. Look at this picture http://www.ocia.net/fullsize.php?filename=161_17.jpg then look at the case.

For a PSU, I was thinking about either a Zalman ZM360B-APS or an Enermax MODU82+ 425W. Although the Enermax costs a little more, it has a very high efficiency and the 625W version is extremely quiet (according to reviews). Also, it has cable management.

About the Thermalright: You think it won't fit in the case? It's a normal width case (most bigtowers aren't any wider), so I would have thought that it's more likely the motherboard would have been a problem...

What kind of fans would you swap into the case so as to make it near silent? eg What are the quietest 120 fans you can get?

Scythe slipstream for absolute quietness
The 500RPM one doesn't make any noise at all.

I'd use the 800 or 1200 rpm for 40cfm or 68cfm, respectively.

Any reason I shouldn't go for the tacens? They push 10cfm of air more at only 1.3dBA more. This review seems quite favorable: http://translate.google.com/transla...-pro-series_2.html&sl=es&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 (the pro only has a potentiometer for speed adjustment included. otherwise, it should be the same)

EDIT: meh. wrong fan. that review is for the Tacens Aura Pro, not the Tacens Ventus. Couldn't find any reviews about the Ventus except a forum post (which was also positive though)
