quiet case?

well this may not be the right place but i did a search and found nothing that impresses me.

first of all i do no over clocking so i dont need a case that will keep my system at subzero temps.

the case is going in my colledge dorm room with everything black/silver so if i could get something that is mainly black or black with silver trims great if not o well

i need something that will be alot quiter then the viking i have now. i will be using it as an htpc alot to so i dont want to hear alot of noise.

im sorry if this is not the right place but search didnt give me anything good. thanks

Yet another vote for the P180, fans (which are already quiet) replaced with Nexus fans, a fanless psu in the lower chamber, the sythe ninja and silent hdd's and your set for a real quiet computer.

However, if dead slience is the thing, go for the Zalman TNN 500AF :) . It is the quietest thing you can get on the market and its all black but it will put a dent in your walet.
 
I have the Antec Sonata (original) which has a very quiet 120mm case fan. I tried replacing it with a Vantec Stealth which was louder than the original Antec fan, so I switched back. I did have trouble with the PSU causing 120Hz AC hum that was louder than the case fan (due to vibrating the case) . I solved that problem by re-mounting the PSU in the case using four neoprene washers and applying foam tape a couple of places so there is no metal-to-metal contact between it and the case. Finally I replaced the stock CPU cooler with a Gigabyte cooler with the speed control turned almost all the way down (on just enough to keep running and re-start).

The PC is right next to my bed but I can finally sleep at night. Resting temps are 35C for the MOBO, 36C for the HD, and 38C for my P4 @3GHz. Room temp is 24C. Under full load the CPU never goes above 50C.
 
The Antec SLK3000B is good for those on the cheap. Run the rear 120mm Tricool fan at low-speed, and add a slow 120mm Coolermaster LED fan for good breathing. Very quiet, I love mine.
 
The Antec SLK3700BQE is also a very nice case. It's rear 120mm exhaust fan is very quiet, and provides plenty of circulation. If you want more, throw a 120mm in the front too. It's also a much cheaper case than the p180.

the p150 just showed up online finally yesterday. Same dampening as p180, simpler to design, cheaper since PSU is included (unless you have a really nice one) and it has hard drive suspension to make it even quiter.

Check out the forums, they're really useful. There is a lot more info there.

The problem is that there are only a few cases, like the p180 and the Zalman fanless designs, that are built to be quiet right out of the box. Many cases can be modded to become quieter with better fans, PSUs, hard drive mechanisms, dampening, etc... but that costs a lot and is a lot of work.

If you want to go that way though just make sure that the case uses 120mm fans. Also, vibration is a big problem so aluminum is generally not too good unless it has been dampened. To further reduce vibration look for cases with some sort of HD decoupling mechanism.

I personally have a Lian Li PC-60 for about five years now and I have done many things to it. I changed the fans and undervolted them, lined the case with dampening material, built a HD suspension system, mounted the fans with rubber grommets, and cut off the fan guard on the back of the case all in order to make it more quiet. I also bought better heat syncs for my PSu and GPU. It all works pretty well but I just wish that products like the p180 were available a few years ago because I could probably have just bought a new one of those for only a little more than all the money it took for me to do these mods. I still need a new PSU though. I have a PC Power & Cooling Silencer (yeah right!) and it sucks. What PSU do you have because if silence is really something that's important to you it may be worth changing even if you like it. I am also considering getting one of these power supply acoustic covers instead:

Get a black Thermaltake Tsunami or Armor. 120mm fans not to bad if you replace the loud ass Tt ones
 
BTW, I forgot to add that the 430W PSU that comes with the Antec p150 is also one of the highest rated PSUs that Silent PC Review has ever reviewed. I think the p150 definately would be a good choice.
 
i guess i could let go of my PSU i mean the reason i thought it would be pointless to buy another one woth the p150 is because i have an antec true power 430W, if there owuld be a big difference in noise level then i porbaly would switch.

as of right now i really like the design and elegance of the p150/180 and will mostly likely get one of those.

i also plan on changing out my NB fan first(MSI NEO4 plat ridicoultly loud)

and i really like the ppo2 that you sowed me, if u get it please let me know on how it works, if it really makes a difference.

the thing that im looking at now is the differnce between the
antec true power 430W
and the
antec Neo He 430 W (comes with the 150)
