Can anyone suggest cool but quiet case fans? I would like to replace the two front fans of an antec900 with really quiet fans. They don't have to be that powerful only need to supply additional cooling. They do not have to have leds in fact its better if they dont. I wouln't want to spend more than 6 bucks on each.
 
That certain fan is made to push as much air as a standard 23 decibals fan while doing it at 19 decibals. It does this by having smaller but more numerous fins spinning at a high rate. While they are quiet I do not really need a high performance fan. A cheap fan with 1200 RPM or lower would probably be good.
 
Nexus "Real Quiet" fans are one of the best, if not the best, for low noise I think. But price is more than you want. Really, you won't find a quiet fan that good quality for $6. Cheaper = louder at lower RPM....IMHO anyways.

I used to use em all the time but am using Scythe Gentle Typhoons now and they are pretty quiet themselves and come in several RPMs to suit your needs. Airflow/RPM/noise, etc....
 
Lots of fans can do 19 decibels, just move the decibel meter away from it. Don't always be so quick to believe manufacturer specs, since there's no accepted standard for testing fan noise between manufacturers.

Those Nexus fans are nice. Also take a look into Yate Loons.

Yeah thats why I made this thread. If someone knew of a really quiet fan in that price range. If you can vouch for them being especially quiet ill try them out.
 
those nexus are just rebranded yate loon slow speeds so OP get those. they are super cheap but good quality.

Everyone: Don't forget that Yate Loons have the kind of bearings that have issues when mounted either horizontally or vertically - I can't remember which way though. :(
 
They're called sleeve bearings. Mounting them horizontally will lead to shorter life since gravity will pull all the lubrication down, causing the inadequate lubrication.
 
the CM r4's are not that great. they are very quiet but do not move no where near the CFM they claim, 40 CFM would be more realistic.

on that note, id recommend the silverstone AP121's, dead silent under full throttle, and are amazing for intake because of how it focus' the air
 
I picked up a Silverstone air penetrator and the thing is dead silent @ 1500 rpm. It also comes with rubber mounts and a speed reduction cable (5, 7, 12v) but I'm not sure why you'd need them with this thing.

What do you plan on using the fan on? I've been reading a little on the ap121's and was wondering if they would do well on something like my TRUE. Kind of getting mixed reviews on that.

I also put in on my TRUE, I saw a 2-3 c drop in temps. I must say I was quite surprised with how well it preformed. But i think it would be great as a case intake fan with how much air it can move through it.

Probably the rear fan from every case I use from now on. Also might get one of those talked about CM hyper cpu coolers and put two of them on it.
 
Get more high CFM fans, and just run on the 5v side. Ex: instead of one 80mm fan, get two and hook them to 5v. 120mm fans running slow will also move a decent amount of air and be quiet. Depends on where it's going, if it fits etc.
 
if you can still find them anywhere, Panasonic "Panaflows' have always been amazing for me. incredibly quiet while moving a TON of air.
 
Vantec "Stealth" fans have been my only I used in my last 3 builds. With the exception of Antec's that might come w/ a case, they are very good as well. It's Ball-Bearing or nothing for me!
