quiet AM2+ cooler

water cooler vs. air cooler

i want to know which is more quiet/performace cooler?

if i buy a good cooler and a Scythe fan, will it be the same quiet & performace as a water cooler.

because i am going to overclock to 3.6 or more on my AMD Phenom II 940.
 
really depends on how crazy you want to go with water cooling.. but id say running a TRUE or noctua NH-U12P, coolermaster v8, or any other highend cooler would be quiet enough.. even without having to replace the fan.. the noctua fans are the quietest ones though.. but all of them are completely capable of cooling the 940@ 3.6ghz or higher..
 
I'm running a Phenom II 940 @ 3.6 right now using a lapped Ultima-90 (TRUE little bro) and a 92mm fan. It keeps the temps down just fine. I don't see above 56C at full load with an ambient of ~68.5F

It's pretty quiet at idle (sitting at 1700rpm now - 34C core) but gets noticable under full load (3000rpm)
