Does anyone make a quiet 970 that runs that stock clock speeds? I bought a reference card for my work so that I had a test bench that matched out target hardware- The noise level with this PNY card is totally unacceptable. It is way louder than my zotac 780 was.

The MSI 970 Gaming 4G and ASUS Strix 970 both run fanless until they reach 60 degrees C.

My MSI 970 while OC'ed barely ever reaches above 60c unless I'm heavy-gaming in recent titles, but otherwise hovers between 40-50c and the fans never so much as turn.

blower style cooler doesn't a card "reference model" its just a card with a blower from a AIB.. "reference" gtx 970 does not exist.. And I think every custom cooled actually run quiet and cool.. I do not like those cards with 0db (fan OFF at idle and low loads) unless you have a case with direct airflow over the GPU. at stock clocks even with overclocks you will be fine with any custom cooled card.. (if you can handle the coil whine of some models ^^)

The EVGA 04G-P4-2972-KR (stock clocks) is silent (no spinning fans) at idle. I can barely detect my 2974 (10% OC) over the stock Intel CPU fan when folding @1500Mhz boost.
