quiet 7970 ?

I am looking for a quiet 7970 for my home rig. What I really need is a card that is quiet at stock. I don't mind if it ramps up when gaming but when I am doing other stuff I value silence. Right now I have the vapor-x. It is a good card but just a little to loud for my tastes.

I found the Asus DCUII Top to be quiet, whether idle or at load, just keep in mind, it's a 3 slot beast.
 
Just download MSI Afterburner and create a custom fan profile and a 2D profile with the lowest clock possible. I have reference 7970's with the fan at 20% when not gaming and they are silent.
 
Stock 7970s are quiet cards especially when idle. Card is audible once it starts hitting the 40% fan speed mark but that happens when you overclock the crap out of it. At stock settings, fan speed should not exceed ~30% at which point it is barely audible.

Nope, I never experienced such a problem.
I had the DCUII Top and the Gigabyte Windforce OC cards, both were quiet, but the Asus was quieter overall.
 
I have also owned an XFX DD version, a Gigabyte Windforce, and an Asus DC2T.. the XFX was quiet but got hot(90C+) and had coil squeal bad. The Gigabyte was not very quiet when idle but the fans were loud when gaming(at 50%+) and it also had coil squeal, although less than the XFX. The DC2T isn't silent, but it's the quietest and coolest of the 3 I've had.
