Quicktime 7 Preview download here

Who uses Quicktime. Use Quicktime alternative so you don't have to deal with that crappy software.

What makes quicktime so bad? its FAR better than windows media player, IMHO.

Who said anything about WMP being better? I hate bothy of them.

Why does everyone hate quicktime? I find it nice to have such a simplified inteface and clean modern look.

I don't mind Quicktime, the player, at all. I do mind that it installs itself to run at startup, which is easily fixed, but still.

For me, the core of the issue is that I have to have another player to sit around to play my media files. With all the right software these days (RA Alternative, Quicktime Alternative, needed codecs) I can rely on one player to handle all my needs (MPC), minus DRM rights of course. And, I might add, that player isn't code heavy.

Don't get me wrong, QT is a clean player that works well for what it does. It just doesn't do everything that I want, how I want.

I tried the preview. The installer is much improved and the preferences interface is much better. It didn't install a systray icon.

However, I couldn't get it to load any of my m3u playlists without crashing. Previous versions load m3u files very slowly, but at least they loaded.

I couldn't get it to load with the limited account I use on WinXP. I had to "run as" with the account that has admin rights. Even setting permissions for the limited acount for the quicktime directory didn't help. In previous versions, this was not a problem.

I see file->open still defaults to movie files instead of all supported types.

The main window looks a little nicer, but still crappy.

foobar, winamp and mpc are way better. I couldn't imagine using the quicktime player all the time.

Smart. I hate bloat, and I hate both of them, too. Also, I don't trust them.
