Quickie network setup question

Ok so i've recently changed around the house a lot and in one room the ethernet cord isn't quite long enough to reach to where my new computer is. My current plan goes from my wired router downstairs-->cable fed to the room-->switch-->wireless access point(mainly for laptops not for my desktop)-->switch to my desktop. Does anyone see any immediate problems with this setup before i go out and drop a little bit of money on it? ;)

No immediate problems. You could possible go for an inexpensive wireless router and configure it to act strictly as an access point. That would save a bit on space by consolidating your two items (AP and switch) together. Are you planning on routing the cable in the walls or exposed?

oh I can do that? :D I wasn't sure if I could or not i've been out of the hardware scene for a while. The cable would just go from the wireless router, probably wrap around the trim, to the computer about 8 feet away. I like to keep stuff as neat as possible.

I WOULD like to go wireless, and even though the wireless router is like 8 feet away from the computer, and in the same room, i'm not sure if it would give me the latency I want. I like to play f.p.s. games occasionally so I would go crazy if I had over 70 ping :p
