Alright, well I just got done putting together my pc and have yet to choose a video card. I have been hoping to pick up an eVGA 6800 for $240 at my nearby Microcenter. However they only get like 1 in stock every week it seems and I have just started school, therefore making it difficult to get to the store once they get a shipment in. I am tired of playing this stupid waiting game. I have decided to option for a 6600gt. I know Leadtek has been given good reviews, along with XFX, however I was also looking at the eVGA. However I decided to look at my local COMPUSA, and it seems they have a BFG for $250. I guess my question is what should I go for?

eVGA 6600gt - $213
Leadtek 6600gt - $225
BFG 6600gt - $250

PS: Is the BFG basically a 6800, seeing as it's been OC'ed? I don't plan on any overclocking, for I do not want to take the risk and have not real need to, so keep that in mind ;)

i think the BFG might be better overall, not too sure

this is what you do
1) go to google.com
2) type in "____ reviews" with the blank replaced by the model
3) read
4) make a decision
(if you cant make one, go back to step 3
5) any problems, then ask us

you're probably better off doing some research, that also gives you an experience and you learn
 
In your situation, definitely the eVGA. Their step-up program will allow you to upgrade to a better card (6800) within 90 days of purchase with only paying the difference.

If you don't plan to upgrade than go for the BFG because it's memory is clocked at 1.025ghz unlike the standard 900mhz.

The BFG card has a minor overclock of the GPU. The biggest advantage with this card is it defaults to 1000MHz memory clock even though the AGP spec for the 6600GT calls for 900MHz memory. The PCI-E versions are all 1000MHz though. BFG just kept the AGP and PCI-E memory clocks the same.

The 6600GT even the BFG will never perform like a 6800/6800GT/6800Ultra as they have less pipelines and the memory has a 128bit data bus instead of a 256bit. That being said, you won't be dissapointed in the 6600GT's performance as it's a very solid card that can play anything at 1280x1024 when installed in a powerfull enough machine.

The Leadtek or eVGA cards are excellent cards from great manufacturers. Either would be a good choice. Someone recently posted a great experience concerning RMA's with eVGA. So that's good to know.

Comp USA has the BFG and the PNY 6600GT's. The PNY card is the one I have and it's been great.
 
Hmm, well would I still be able to run Doom 3, HL2, and Far Cry on medium settings if not higher?

Man, I am sitll undecided, I am really leaning towards the BFG, seeing as I don't have to ship it (CompUSA) and it has a lifetime warranty. Anyone else have good luck with BFG?
 
BFG is definitely the best nvidia card manufacturer--but in this case, it's difficult to know whether it's worth it :)
 
Talk to someone higher-up at the store w/ the 6800NU for $240 and ask them politely and professionally to hold you one when it comes in, or to have them order one for you. Always remember to go straight to the top to get anything done, and remember that acting professional will always get you further ;) evga 6800nu @ $240 w/ a little wait and work > BFG 6600GT @ $250 w/ no work (besides working for the money to pay for it lol)
 
looking at the maximum difference your going to be paying between any of those two cards is $37, just think of how you now have a 6600GT for life thanks to the bfg lifetime warranty (as long as you dont void it). plus the OC couldnt hurt :)
 
errr....yeah!!!!!

I like the 6600GT side by side with no AA or AF(and 1280x1024) runs about the same as my 6800GT. But why not wait for the X800xl? Should be out in a month or so right(I think that was the timeframe for the AGP version)? And in some stuff faster then my 6800GT AND ATI has better drivers, and costs $100 less ($299). I say save your money by waiting a month and get the X800xl. Or get the BFG 6600GT...it's up to you, I have an XFX 6600GT and other then the HSI heatsink getting really hot it's a great card. I believe the BFG has a better cooling system for both the VPU and the HSI bridgechip, which would cool their card better then the solution my XFX uses.
