Can you have air cooling as well as water cooling in the same case. I'm building a new pc, water cooling looks FUCKING AWESOME. I was wondering, should I order a normal PC (with like a 120mm air fan) then add water cooling later, in addition to the air.

The FAQ doesn't answer this question. thanks...

Hell yes you can do it.
What do you mean by "in the same case" though? It's possible to have like, your CPU and GPU watercooled, and your chipset air-cooled. Or you could have a watercooled CPU, and air on the GPU/chipset. It doesnt matter, but you are going to have to be more specific on how you want to set it up.

lol, im kinda nub as you can tell. In the same case I mean can you have water cooling AND air cooling all in one case. Like, will it fit? I see all these compenents on the faq that I need, and it looks like a hell of alot of stuff (surprised for a good water system its under 200). A damn radiator looks like the size of the case I might buy (from general pics)

I thought you should just have like one general fan for everything, then just attach water cooling to everything else. Didn't know fans were made for cooling a specific component, just thought you slap it into the back of your comp and go. Water cooling looks so damn awesome though, and I'm tempted to OC a processor to 4.0 ghz.

Really its just an idea in the back of my head, I first gotta figure out how to build a damn computer first!

maybe like two fans in front, then water cool all the rest? IDK...definetly like the lian li line though.

something like this, so many choices!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811112053 sorry meant this case edit - the v6000 looks like a nice one, and everyone says its good for water cooling.

Well you've got alot of reading to do. For starters, that case is huge and will have plenty room to fit the components. I don't have a clue what your talking about regarding air and water cooling together. Is there gonna be a fan on ur proc, or a waterblock? In a watercooled system you still have fans on the rad, and usually something to move ambient air as well.

ideally, you'd still need an intake and exhaust fan still because you'd want some air movement to cool the remaining capacitors on your mobo as well as your hard drives etc

if you're curious about case room, look at the picture thread, that will give you an excellent idea of what kind of room you get with whatever case.

Well, if he's running something like a 3-fan radiator (which will fit in that giganto case hes looking at  ) he could just use the fans on the radiator as the intakes, and throw a few more 120mm fans on the back as exhaust. Keeps ambient temps down, you get a clean installation without having the radiator outside, and you still get great water temps.

OK, let me clear one thing up that it seems you guys are confused about. Lets say I buy a normal, air cooled computer and put it together like any other computer, with like a 120mm fan in the back or w/e. Then, can I add a WC setup and still keep the fan(s) inside it, for general cooling inside the case?

Now, about this case. Holy shit, it doesn't even fit in my comp box. I just measured it, it sticks out about 4"! It also doesn't include a window, and when it comes to cutting, I get scared. Real fucking scared. It looks like that case is out...damn.

Any ideas of a case similar to that, with water cooling capabilities and a lot of room, that actually fits in my little desk hehehe. Preferably Lanli, I like there design a lot.

Yeah, you can do an air-cool setup, and add water later, that won't be a problem at all, you just have to figure out the placement of all the gear that you want to keep/put in. It shouldn't be hard.
On the case...assuming you have about a 4" excess out of your desk, I reckon you'd be looking at about a depth of 20", correct? With that in mind, maybe you could give these a shot:

although the last one could be a tad big. Modding time....
Take note that you will probably have trouble using a triple-fan radiator setup in any of these cases, and having it all contained within the case. The best you can hope for is either a 1/2" tubing setup with a single radiator and a mid-flow pump, or a 3/8" tubing with a dual-radiator and a high-flow pump.
Personally, I prefer the smaller tubing, higher-flow setup, regardless of the radiator.
3/8" (10mm if you happen to live outside the US) setups that are built well will give cooling performance close to (never as good or better than) 1/2" tubing setups, but are much easier to route and work with, not to mention keep your airflow cleaner.
In the end though, it's up to you.

19.3 exactly, you are correct my friend. Thats funny, your second case choice is 19.3 distance. On the matter of the cases:

I would have to say out of pure comparison with looks and features, the second one (Lian Li PC-6077B) would have to be a no go. IDK, I just don't like it. Only advantage I see is the 6 external 5.25 bays, but thats nothing I need. Don't like the inside either, but whatever.

Being laid out like that, that leaves us #1 choice (Lian Li PC-60BPlus) and #3 (Lian Li PC-V1000B). The second choice is 20.7, and I could take out that big black wall in the back of my comp storage place to make it fit (nailed it on anyway). I hope you were kidding about modding that thing to bring its distance down!

God, I love that mesh. Its just so.......damn that looks fine. On the other hand, the 60b's two floppy ports look like a nice fat LCD would stick right in there OR EVEN one of those aqua things that spin around, think its a res(?) or something. Dammit I can't find the picture. It had this neat aquacomputer thing (excuse my nub grammer) which look filled with water and had it right in those two bays (he said he needed to cut a little). What would be even cooler is if you could stick a radiator right under those two floppy bays in the air flow hole to utilize the open hole scenario. Will that fit?

Also, I think I might want a window, but as I said earlier it gives me the creeps. Any suggestions, should I find a professional cutter? Also, what do you guys think about ordering silver one, paiting the inside black, then a clear coat to keep finger prints away, going with a silver and black theme? And I also thought I saw pictures of rugs in their comps in some thread. Is that true or am I just halllucinating?

For water cooling-

Take note that you will probably have trouble using a triple-fan radiator setup in any of these cases, and having it all contained within the case. The best you can hope for is either a 1/2" tubing setup with a single radiator and a mid-flow pump, or a 3/8" tubing with a dual-radiator and a high-flow pump.

Triple fan radiator? Would that fit where I plan to place it? Don't know much about radiators....havn't started looking at water cooling yet, just ideas. Aqua computer's products look great though, and I am sure they measure up preformance wise since many people here like them. I like banGerprawN's idea, but will that work in any of the two cases?

For tubing, my personal preference would be to have bigger tubes then smaller tubes, basically on looks. I think you don't get as much flow, but would bigger tubes fit it the PC-60B?

..thats all for now, thanks!

edit- here is the res I was talking about

From what I can judge, you will be able to fit a single-fan radiator in the whole underneath the floppy bays on the 1000B. I actually think that the hole there may be slightly larger, so you might have to do a custom spacer out of Blu-Tack or something, and just Sharpie marker it......:D kidding.
For the window, you can buy Lian-Li windows for just about every single one of their cases (I can't actually think of a Lian-Li case that doesnt come with an optional window), but if you can't find one, or you can't get the design you want, go out and buy yourself a Dremel (rotary tool, Dremel is the brand name) and just do it yourself. If you need help on that, the Case Mod forum stickies are a freakin' awesome place to start. I know I did....!
On the larger tubing, they actually allow for _increased_ water flow, not decresed. They will fit in the PC-60B, but the problem you may have, as I said, is being able to effectively route them the way you want them to go, although this is rarely a problem in the Lian-Li cases because they are so well set out and are often fiendishly huge.
If you decide to use 1/2" tubing, and you make your own system instead of using a prebuilt, make sure you get a pump with enough head pressure and flow rate to push the water all the way through your tubing.

Thanks for the tips. And the dremel.............I think I'll learn how to build a computer first.

OT
Speaking of that, is there any really good guide for your average hardware nub out there on the internet that explains step by step how to build a modern computer?

Thanks
