Quick video card question.

Alright, I have a 9700 Pro, with an XP1800+ and 512 PC211 ram. I"m gonna do the intel retail purchase thingy, and get the P4 550 and board. I notice the board only supports pci xpress. Which ATI card, (x300, x600, x800) is on par with the Radeon 9700 Pro.

For price, x600...it won't be as fast as the 9700 pro, but the price is more reasonable. The x800 XT would be the card to get performance-wise, but at +/- $550, it's not much of a bargain right now...aside from the fact that ther're a bitch to find.

The x700 series and the Geforce 6600 series will be out soon...you may want to wait a bit...either would be a good match for the 9700 pro and at around $200 would be a good bargain too.

if last year is any indication, you may not get your intel package til around christmas or later. Some people got theirs as late as mid january. So by then the prices of the pci express cards, and hopefully ddr2 ram, which is the only ram the intel board suports, will be decent.

I agree with diablo, X600 or X700 (X600 closer to 9700 performance).

or get an x800 pro vivo and you could probably turn it in an xt.......but still pretty pricey $790...australian currency

I would have to agree with rich myself
find yourself a good X800 VIVO off ebay and soft mod it to 16 pipelines at XT speeds, it would work out pretty good for you.
I did the soft mod myself and scored a 10001 on 3DMark03.
