Quick thermal paste question

Hello,

I am going to be removing my CPU heat sink for a few moments to install some new fans and the reinstall the same heatsink atop of the same CPU. The current thermal paste/grease is Tuniq TX-2. Will I have to clean off the old paste/grease and put a new dot down or is that unnecessary?
 
Not 100% necessary, but you'll end up with air bubbles in the thermal grease (which will lead to poorer performance).

Best practice is to re-apply every time you break the seal between the heat-spreader and the heat-sink.

I've always followed this mind set personally. It's only a few seconds of work, and well worth it IMO.
 
Thanks for the replies. I assume reapplying = cleaning off the old grease and first.
 
I always have a bottle of Rubbing Alcohol or some Articlean handy when changing out heatsinks. New tim always provides for peace of mind.
