I already have an HTPC (as seen in my sig). Was asked about building one for a family member. I'm trying to give them an idea on hardware and was wondering if someone could refer me to a reasonable build price. I know you don't have to have the latest and greatest, but I also don't want to build something so crappy it barely runs.

In addition to the hardware, I would run Windows 7 64-bit on it and probably do an HD Homerun dual tuner on it.

I was looking at http://www.logicalincrements.com/ for inspiration. I was thinking that anything from the $413-$596 range looked decent for HTPC usage, but wasn't certain. I'd probably be looking at a different case too.

Well if you have a microcenter around they have some pretty solid motherboard and cpu bundles. For example you can get an A6 6400k and an Asrock itx FM2A75M-ITX Rev. 2.0 motherboard for 109 plus tax. Add some 1866 (or better speed for apu) ram from newegg for 4gb for $50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231474

As far as a case I really like the cooler master elite 130's but they are not for everyone. They would leave you with a hdd and powersupply and optical drive if you need one. Also if you want to go intel the g3220 haswell chips are pretty capable too.

I hope that helps.

Unfortunately I have no decent retail places around here, so its all newegg or amazon. I'm not necessarily going to micro either..I mean if it worked out okay I guess that would be alright, but mostly I just want something that will work well for them. I don't really necessarily need specifics, mostly just need a general figure for a build to see if they are still interested.
