Quick Sound Question, please help

Hey whatup guys, just a quick question.

I have an old school Sound Blaster Live, and some Creative i-trigue 2.1 speakers [works for me ], but lately i've been noticing some wierd stuff going on with my sound.

For example, when playing Colin Mkae (sp) rally demo, and randomly, the sound would mess up and make loud annoying blurred noises, and my bass sounds like its popping every 10 seconds. Eventually, after a minute or so, the noises get louder and loduer, more annoying, more popping and so on.

So, seeing that i rarely notice it, i dismissed the problem, but i was playing the first splinter cell today on my computer, and half way through the mission, it did the same exact thing. Suddenly the sound just blurs [i can barely hear the original nosies in the background] and the same thing happens.

I hate installing creative drivers from their website because it installs a bunch of other taskbar crap, so does anyone know what this sounds from?
