I just got my 2.8c P4 in the mail a second ago and was wondering whether the black square in the center of this retail p4 heatsink was to be removed, i have some arctic silver 5, do i just remove this thing? It is sort of a sticker:

Thanks!

if you can peal it off go for it, i lik putting rubbing alchohol on it letting it soak it up, and scraping it off with a razor (getting the blade between the hs and the pad to to wedge it abart at the glue seam)

some people will tell you to use goo off or somehting like that and never use a razor b/c you may scratch your hs (and you may depends on how you are with a blade) but thats usualy something that wont realy affect your hs, a mirror finish is nice, but when it has that grain to it another little scratch isnt going to do anything noticeable

the pad is there to work as the thermal compound so if you have something better (and you do) then change it up

good luck

I ripped the thing off and it left two sticky stipes on either side which I successfully removed with Goof-Off. Everything cleaned up nicely, wiped it all up with a plain rag. I put on my Arctic Silver 5 and started up the system. 41.5k on Aquamark 3 and neither my video card or my processor is overclocked one bit. :)
