Is there Great difference in Quility bewtween VGa and DVI on 20 inch lcd widescreen displays

I have my current V22025VXm Viewsonic .. i am thinking of getting another of those, or a sceptre 20 inch display.. I wondering if i will see a big difference in quality between the 2?

Skeleton, here's a quote from a doc put out by a British site. Those Brits are pretty sharp dudes, so you can rely on this....

Q. Does DVI make a difference?

A. "This depends very much on the panel in question. Some users of some panels say that switching between VGA and DVI makes NO difference on their screens. Notably users of the Samsung range (171T, 181T, 172X) have said it makes little or no difference, and has even been tested by users with 2 side by side. Other users of different panels swear it DOES make a difference. For example, I have personally seen the LG1710B in action in both modes, and the DVI was noticeably better quality and much sharper than the VGA. However the DVI connection on the LG I would rate as comparable to the VGA on some TFT’s without DVI at all, including the AOC LM720a. It seems logical that perhaps some manufacturers who build their screens without DVI spend more time perfecting the VGA connection as that is all they offer. Whereas companies who supply both connections sensibly would expect their users to use the DVI connection, as it is there, and so sacrifice quality of the VGA as the DVI can show off the full potential of their panel. Therefore screens without DVI tend to have a better VGA than those with DVI and in some cases a good VGA connection can be comparable in quality to a DVI connection."

"Quality of the VGA connection is also related to the GFX card used. Most modern GFX cards have a good VGA output and this is important in image quality of the TFT. NVidia cards have been said to have a slightly better VGA output than the ATI cards, but as said, most new cards will give u a good quality output. Good output combined with a good VGA input on the screen will give u a good quality picture."

"One other thing to note is that when using DVI connection, most TFT's lose the option of some of the on screen settings like contrast and brightness, so if u use DVI and u cant change them, some people have found the screens too bright. Software fixes are available for this though (inc Powerstrip etc)....."
RILOT: "I have non DVI TFT’s and the picture quality is exactly the same as my friends Samsung TFT that does have DVI. We tested them both together. Oddly though, when using the Samsung with VGA input the image quality was significantly worse......If you have a card with a decent 2d quality output it shouldn't make any difference whatsoever."

END

Sorry, never had a w/s 20", only a 23" w/s.
All my other monitors have been non-widescreen 15", 17", 19" 20".
Yes, some of them were using video cards with "VGA" connectors.

Sounds like it wont be a big issue.. now i just have to find another 20incher i can fford and blop it down for a 40 inch widescreen set up

Great idea !! U'lll have one massive monitor !
Word of advice (even tho I'never had a "dual-screen" setup, I still say this is good advice)....
Let your 2nd LCD be exact-same model n' manufacturer as the one yer running now. An exact twin.
Otherwise you'll have an "off-looking setup" and in a little while you'll hate it, wishing you had a pair of exact twins.
Also, I think you need video card with 2 DVI or 2 VGA connectors but I'm sure u already know that..
Post pics of yer setup; I'll bet it'll look real cool running a game in 40" glory.

yea.. it should be nice.. but seem like i gonna have to get a vid card with dual DVI b/c mine has one VGa and one DVI :(...I think i could sell my x800gto2 for 100? and get another 100$ card with dual dvi..
:(
Stupid none dual dvi card lol

Looks like i goign to need to convert my DVI to VGa with a adpter or get a video card with dual DVI.... Which do you recommened?

Skeleton, since I never hooked 2 monitors together, I'm reluctant to give advice on which is best way to connect them.
But you made a good suggestion when you said, maybe you could get an adapter and plug it on your card so you'd have 2 VGA connectors.
Great idea, and if it works you might not need a second card right away..
On another subject.....
Something has always interested me about running a game with 2 monitors.
When you put the 2 together, side-by-side, would you have a one-inch wideblack bar right in the middle of your game screen? If the enemy was right in front of you, would the bar hide him, make it tougher to shoot him?
If so, wouldn't that be kinda annoying when playing the game?
I've often wondered.

I think i would set it up so that i can run the game on one monitor and do other stuff on the other.. my x800gto2 card couldnt run at 3360x1050 anyway maybe 1 fps.. hahhaha

"3380 rez"? Your saying you'd need a beast of a card to divide the action-screen between 2 monitors, cuz u'd need to double the rez? I never thot of that..
Are you sure? Wouldn't each card simply run one-half the screen at its native rez of 1650, not 3880?
Well like I say I never ran a game on 2 monitors so I can't argue either way.
But anyway, good luck and post some pics when u get yer 2nd monitor.:)

I only have 1 video card so i don't think it could run from 2.. LOL
But it would run half at 1680x1050 and the other 1680x1050.. but thats alot of pixals to calabrate.. I waiting for some money from my paypal to get this.. it takes SOOOO!! long to get money transferred to paypal.. :p
