I've been looking into upgrading to a "real" surge protector with line conditioning capabilities. Several people have pointed me to www.brickwall.com and in particular I think http://www2.catalognavigator.com/br...ectors?&plpver=10&forward=1&backtoname=&pane= looks particularly good for my needs. I'm assuming since it says "was originally designed to be run in series in front of a UPS" it would be ok to put this guy in between a wall and a lesser surge protector (just so I'd have more than two plugs). Is this correct; could I plug my old surge protector into this guy so I have enough plugs to fit everything in?

Thanks for the idea, but APC's all use MOVs and I'm looking for a true quality, non-MOV surge protector/line cleaner so I can be absolutely sure my expensive equipment is safe. Bump for the question though: is it ok to lead extension cords/other surge protectors OUT of the brickwall unit? It says on their site not to separate it from the wall with an extension cord or other device, but if the sequence is wall, brickwall surge protector, power strip am I ok?

A usenet user named w_tom has often posted about surge protection and has emphasized that surge protectors need a good, low impedance connection to earth ground and has said that a bad ground can actuallly let surges cause more damage (he prefers whole-house surge protectors mounted in the main circuit breaker box). So maybe BrickWall is concerned about ground quality.

The better surge protectors from companies like APC include not only MOVs but also an EMI filter that acts like the BrickWall's protectors, but the better PSUs also have decent EMI filters inside them.

Yeah I'm getting the brickwall model because it doesn't rely on MOVs, which can leak surge current and damage equipment.
