Im reinstalling XP and I have all my backup files on my second hard drive and I'm ready to go, now what do I do? Do I erase my primary drive? Or do I just put in my operating CD in and reboot?
 
The windows xp CD will ask you if you want it to format your primary drive. If you have a good backup, formatting it completely is the way to go.
 
grrrrrrrrrrrr Ive been trying to get this working for an hour I cant begin the reinstall process. If I put the cd in and click install windows I get an error saying I have a newer version. If I put the cd in and reboot and play with settings (bios and setup) I still cant get the cd to bring an install box.

I went to setup and made IDE CD primary boot and save changes it still loads normally.

I went to boot options and tried every option 1-8 and it still loads normally any idea what I need to do?
 
I forgot to mention this is a dell system and so the cd is dell but it says reinstall windows XP on it so
 
Normally, the Dell CDs will give you a timed prompt to press any key if you want to boot to CD...assuming that your boot order looks at CDs first. I really don't know what your problem might be with booting to the CD, but if all else fails you can check Dell's website on system recovery procedure.
