I just upgraded my old gaming rig from an ancient 4870 to an ASUS 7970 (got it for $270 as well)

- Was it a bad idea to have gone for that 7970 with the 280X coming out? It seemed like I got an amazing deal on that 7970 (especially after dealing with my 4870 for so long).
- Also, will i be able to max out BF4 on my current resolution at 1920x1080?

Personally I wouldn't say the 280x is worth the extra $30 cost (at minimum) and the current lack of bundle over the 7970. Now if they do a refresh and add a game bundle I can see the extra cost being worth it but I'm maybe a bit more into audio stuff than typical. I would actually consider upgrading from the recent 7950 I bought if they do actually :p

$270 for a card that originally retailed at $549 is a good deal. They really won't drop much further before they simply disappear since the 7970 is an equal performer to the 280X which both costs more and is intended to replace it. That's a hell of an upgrade coming up from a 4870. It will be more than adequate for BF4 at 1080p and you've even got 3 gb of vram which I would consider to be a minimum for that game at maxxed settings.

edit: it's a Graphics Core Next gpu so whatever Mantle is will work on the 7970 like it would on the 280X, so that's a plus since BF4 is the first Mantle game.
