Quick question

-verbosity 9 increases the amount of info shown in the log file while folding for diagnosing problems.

-advmethods allows the client to download new advanced scientific cores and/or work units if available

-verbosity 9 gives you greater log file detail which can be helpful at times for troubleshooting problems.

-advmethods tells the server that you are willing to accept advanced stage beta units. These are work units that have gone through closed beta testing and the final step before being released to the general public. They may be stable but they also may not be stable so use at your own risk.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. We've seen both sides recently, 10109 yielding less PPD compared to other GPU2 WUs and some new Fermi units yielding more PPD. One should never use -advmethods expecting more points as it's really not how the system works. New WUs only spend a short time in -advmethods anyway, so once they are released to gen-pop it generally all balances out.

Nope, -advmethods covers all clients.

When Stanford gets ready to release a WU, they first send it to a closed group of beta testers. After that, it gets released for public beta testing in what they call advanced stage testing (-advmethods). Once they have sufficient data back that it is stable and producing the results they want, they release it to everyone as a normal WU.
