So have a s939 4400+ running at 2.2 Ghz and a Core Duo at 1.83Ghz. What would be the best setup between the standard client and SMP, and how much ppd would they bring it approx? Thanks!

The 4400+ is a dual-core.

Probably your best bet would be to run the SMP client, you'll probably get at least double the ppd. If you manage to make the deadlines.

Yep, I agree about running SMP. Preferably in Linux.

you should have no problems meeting the deadlines on either dual core chip.

The regular SMP client should work fine.

If that is indeed a dual core, personally I would recommend to part the system and get a quad core with the sale of the dual core and the 2gb of ram.

4400 X2 on ebay

Haha, not quite the short term answer I was expecting, but yes, in time I will upgrade. Things have been difficult lately, pushing back my upgrading more and more. Right now, I'm shooting for Fermi's hard launch before I upgrade (should coincide with Gulftown release :D)

Well, SMP on dials, standard on single's, VM's will yield the most but it's your choice

I'd check some stuff on the lappy tho, all the power saving things can really hurt folding unless you disable it

4400 is a dual core. The core duo is a laptop, but as of right now it's really doing nothing. Any ppd estimates for either of these CPUs?

I have an older XPS laptop with a 2 GHz Core2Duo and it gets around 1,300 PPD running Notfreds. So I guess you'll prolly get close to 1k PPD with that.

Also, my FX55 is 2.6 GHz single core and it only gets like 350 PPD with notfreds, lol. So I'm guessing you might get 600 PPD with that 4400+. Just a guess though.
