I'm starting to get just a little frustrated here, and I think the answer might just be right in front of my face and I'm not seeing it.
I have been trying to get Ubuntu installed on my laptop, unsuccessfully, for quite a while. I have tried 6.06, 6.10, Xubuntu 6.10 and none of them will install. I have managed to get Ububtu 6.06 to run (really poorly) off of the live cd, but it won't install. Xubuntu won't even run off the cd, and I am getting really sick of wasting cd's with this.
I can run and install DSL 3.0 no problem, in fact, it runs excellent.

Specs are PIII 700meg, 256meg ram with some sort of on board graphics. Is the problem the laptop, hardware wise, or am I getting bad iso's over and over?

Any advice is appreicated..

Have you tried running the ubuntu installer in text mode? It may be the installer doesn't recognize your video card, DSL uses XVesa which works on anything.

No, I haven't tried that yet, honestly I haven't been able to get the desktop functioning well enough off the live cd to try much of anything. As I said, I did manage to get 6.06 to "run" kind of, the desktop loaded, but that was about it. It just seems almost as if I'm getting a bad burn, but to have that happen five or six times, well it just seems odd. And I should mention that I also tried Zenwalk, and got the same damn thing.... I don't think it's my cd drive, I can load and run XP just fine. When I boot form the cd, it takes at least 10 to 20 minutes to get to a desktop, and at that point it's basically locked up.
I'm stumped:mad:

Try doing an md5sum on the iso image and compare to the download directory. That should tell you if your downloads are bad or not. Just google md5sum, there are many different versions out there.
What do you mean by bad installs? Where does it get stuck if at all? What are you seeing that you don't think you should see?
