Quick question regarding WD raptors and RAID 0

I'm getting problems with stuttering in Oblivion, which I'm certain are due to my 7200RPM Seagate HDD (It always happens at certain spots and loading areas), so I've been considering getting a new, fast drive just for Windows, apps and games. At first I was thinking of picking up two 36.7 gig WD Raptors and putting them in RAID 0 and using my current HDD for music and other files. However I've heard that just getting a single raptor can improve load times, and since I don't want to buy more than I really need, I'm considering going that route. My question is, is going the RAID 0 route worth the extra $50-$100? I've read articles here about how RAID 0 doesn't improve game performance that much, but Oblivion isn't really like most popular games, and I've heard from the author of tweakguides.com that RAID 0 does help a lot. Any input?

i dont think a hdd can cause this unless its being accessed by other programs in the bg?

the xbox runs at 5800rpm and games are unable to glitch it. the sata drive inthe 360 are 7200rpm and are accessed constantly but obliviona nd the such. with no ill effect.

I MAY be wrong. but i dont beleive your hdd is causing this unless its truelly stating to fry? but then i'd think that owuld be random.. maybe not.

A single raptor 74 is faster and more stable than a pair of 36es. I'd recommend that instead.

paradoxblue: I don't think he's talking about an xbox of any sort, and it'd be 5400 RPM not 5800.

Doh, I just read the sticky again and I guess I missed the drives to avoid portion. Sorry about that and thanks for the help.

The 74 is a major step up from the 36. The 150 is another big step up, too, but it's $300 instead of $150. And you could get a used 74 for (relatively) cheap.

A 74 is *not* a major step up pricewise from two 36s.

... so thus, since price(2*36) > price(74) ** performance(2**36) < performance(74), buy a 74. Is that what you were concluding?

Ah, I see. I was talking about performance in that first sentence, not price. Sorry it was confusing.
