The fan on my GeForce3 TI500 is dead and or dying. Can I just buy a chipset fan from anywhere to replace it? Or is this fan proprietary to this card or heatsink only?

I really don't want/need to buy a new card, even a lower end new card because all I play is Q3.
 
you should be able to find a replacement, or mod it with a bigger badder heatsink/fan :)

think you could post a pic of the card?
 
I was gonna try to get another TI500 off of e-bay but bids were goin over 50 freakin dollars.

I surely don't have the time to mod anything. Let alone mod it to where its worthy of a posted picture.

Seriously tho, are those fans in a standard size?
 
Have any cpu hsf you aren't using? You can put one of those on with two small drops of superglue. Not the best/most efficient solution but does the job. I did this on my ti200 with an antlonxp retail hsf and I got a little better overclock.
 
lol....... what i actually did to my 9600 RPO was take the HSF and drill it out so i could use those little plastic things to hold it on.....i feel stupid......i could have just glued it instead of spending liek 1.5 hours [H] modding it.












lesson is....be [H] not .....dont glue it...;..MOD IT
 
if the card has these type of heatsink mountings (2 peg clips), it should be simple to find a replacement: http://www.techspot.com/reviews/hardware/xtasy_ti500/card.gif

Get a crystal orb or something similar that's cheap.

If you're feeling adventurous and can work with small parts, it's probably possible to fix your stock fan. Remove a sticker, undo the clip, take apart the fan assembly, clean, oil, reassemble. I've got most of my fans back to near perfect working order that way.
 
Another option is leave the factory heatsink on, remove the fan, and just bolt any old fan onto it for a big airflow upgrade.

I've done this several times for a quick 'ghetto' fix, or a quick upgrade for folks wanting an airflow upgrade and no care about the looks.

Most of the time you can bend the heatsink fins in the corners just a tick to get em to grab onto screws. Takes like two minutes, and there's no risk of yanking the GPU off of the card or scratching the board when prying off the heatsink.
