does this game has to play on line? Or can you play w/ the computer? because at the very beginning, EA is asking for my email addr. etc., it seems to be the only way to get a profile created.

You have to make an EA account to access any features from Battlefield 2142.

Once logged in you will have access to "Single Player" aka. you vs computers
and Multiplayer

Once you have it, its free to play. You HAVE to make an EA account. Dont worry, they're a legit business. They keep all your stats for you.

Btw... anyone still play this game? I did, but rarely saw people playing, so i stopped. Loved it otherwise.

I think more people still play bf2 than 2142, but i havent been on 2142 in quite a while

BF2 has a pretty strong following, I think 2142 has died down though.

I have BF 2142 and hate it. Not many people playing online, the weapon damage sucks etc. I have moved onto CoD4 as my main FPS.

i still play it......because im broke as shit. i am iknifedyou add me to buddy list if you want. i like bf2142 over bf2. northern expansion is nice to. i wish they would come out with more content for it. bf2 is getting all the love.

BF 2 came out before 2142, so I'm surprise there is more follow thru on BF2 than BF 2142.

Anyhoo, I don't like the idea of giving EA my email addr. and login online to them. Does BF 2 requires me to register on line when I first load up the game? As I never play BF 2 before.

Have you never played an online game before? This is fairly standard procedure. Don't worry, it's completely safe and you have nothing to worry about. They won't spam your inbox, either. All you have to do is enter in your e-mail one time for security reasons, should you ever forget your account name/password.

yeah i wouldnt worry about it. if you are worried give them a free email account address doesnt have to be your master account email from your isp.

No, never play on line game due to bandwidth limitation. I have other dta to download monthly, so I don't have the time nor the bandwidth to play computer games.

And I never came across a web site that does NOT send me junk email after I tell them my email addr., so I have no reason to believe this co. at all

I guess the alternative is to create an additional email addy just for this kind of stuff if you dont trust it with your main account. Quick and simple, dont even have to use it unless you forget a password.

trust me, I have had bf2142 for 2 years now and not once have they spammed me. they simply need your email address incase you forget your password or need help so they know where to send info.

If its a SPAM concern, simply create a free Yahoo/Gmail/Hotmail account to pass on to them.

What kind of ISP do you have where playing games causes a bandwidth concern? Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't playing games online barely take up any bandwidth?

Well, I have 2 problems w/ my bandwidth usage:

1) I have exceeded it every mth.

2) My screen is 2560x1600, if I play it online w/ texture and graphics quality set to high, won't I be transmitting a lot of graphics info thru the cable modem?

Graphics are rendered locally, none of that data is transmitted. The only information transferred is information about your player/other players, such as movement, bullets, etc. None of this takes up significant bandwidth.

Bf2142 is not dead. There are always 64 players servers available, at least at Friday evening in Europe and many more smaller servers. It is very fun :)

i use to but got sick of messing with the unfinished beta updates.. yet another great game completely destroyed by EA..

happy hopping what ISP do you have?

Plenty of people ar still playing but you need the northern strike expansion to play on a lot of servers now. You can get the whole set for around $10 at g2play.net among others
