Quick question on Antec psu

Hi guys, first time poster long time reader.

I wonder if someone can help me clear up some doubt in my mind please.

I have an Asus A8V deluxe mobo with 20-pin ATX connector. The A8V is an AGP based board. I was looking at the following psu.

http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=20551

However, the blurb on Antec’s page says that this is an EPS12V model and as such not compatible with my board. The extract below is taken from the Antec page listed above.

What is EPS12V? EPS12V is a special, non-ATX standard adopted by the Server System Infrastructure (SSI) group to provide a more powerful and stable environment for critical server-based systems and applications. EPS12V equipment is not compatible with standard ATX or ATX12V PCs found in homes and offices."

My question is as follows. If I use a 24- pin to 20-pin adapter can I safely use this psu on my board.

Sorry to ask such a silly question but I can’t see any reason that this psu cannot be used safely with my hardware but difficult to ignore the comments made by Antec.

Many thanks for any info

Cheers

It'll work. Most high-end PSUs conform to both the EPS12V and ATX12V standard. The bigger question now is, why are you considering that PSU specifically? It comes from the old TruePower family, and you certainly don't need the EPS12V part of that PSU since you have an A8V Deluxe.

The A8V Deluxe only has 20-pin connector. He doesn't need this PSU and should be looking elsewhere, imo.

I wouldn't recommend a older design with only a 20-pin ATX.

This PSU will be fine, just allow the extra 4 pins to hang over the edge. ;)

I meant something that follows the ATX12V v2.0 spec, but he doesn't need the 8-pin EPS12V.

Just get the TPII 550. I upgraded to that from a TP 480. I added 4 more drives to the machine and figured why not upgrade, since it only costed me $5.00 (sold my TP 430 from my HTPC for $75 and bought the 550 for $80 at the egg, tehn put the 480 into the HTPC.)

No, he doesn't need it, but if he wants it, that's fine it has both 4-pin P4 & 8-pin EPS connectors. ;)
