Quick Question, need clarification on Dual-Channel

Alright, I need some Clarification here. What does Dual-Channel ACTUALLY do? Why is it better than Regular, etc. etc. I dont have much knowledge on the subject, and It'd be good to be able to explain it to people etc.

If im remembering it right technically i think it lets one memory stick handle evens, and the other odds. This speeds it up. (I forget the exact term for it)
 
When running memory, you can have single channel or dual channel.

Single channel tends to be prohibitively slower because it takes multiple clock cycles for the memory to access the data in memory. When you have dual channel, the computer can access data from both modules at the same time, reducing the delays caused when having to wait for a single module to prepare its data.

Since you can access data from both channels, you can increase memory bandwidth and memory performance.

That's what I understand.
