Quick question involving a failed RAID 1 drive

Hey guys,
I had a RAID 1 set up for my OS/Apps. One of the member drives failed (Maxtor Diamondmax 10), and I was looking to replace it with the same model as a temp fix until I start fresh. I've found some on eBay, but after shipping I can't justify the expense when I could practically buy a 1TB or greater for the same cost.

I have a 750GB drive that hasn't been used at all, so my question is, can I just pop that 750 in there and rebuild the array? I understand I'd be losing more than half it's capacity, but would the RAID controller care? I just recently rebuilt my OS install and all that, and I don't feel like investing in new drives again for an upgrade and reinstall quite yet.

I appreciate your comments and suggestions. Thanks!

Hmmm, good question. I know you can build an array from scratch with two different size drives, I have never try to rebuild one from a failure with a different size drive.

You have provided virtually no input to us. You need to list your hardware, OS, and any applicable software and configuration details.

I don't really see how that's relevant unless there are some RAID controllers known to be able to handle different sized drives when rebuilding a mirrored array and some that aren't. I was just curious if anyone had tried it and gotten it to work. Thanks anyway.
