i got a xigmatech hd-1283 and also a LGA775 Bolt-Thru-Kit. But i've never used bolts for this before, i'm wondering do you put the back plate behind the mobo, and than secure it and put it back in the case? Or do you put the backplate behind the rightside panel and attach it that way? If any of you guys know any guides that show pictures, that would be awesome, thanks.

Unfortunately xigmatech doesn't have any instructions for doing bolts, the instructions it had mentioned only pushpin installation, and so far the guides i've searched for having provided the answers i was looking for yet ;o

haven't used any sort of bolt through since my n4 ultra-d (s939), but those you put the backplate behind the mobo, i'm sure lga 775 bolt through is the same.

Is this the cooler you have? http://www.xigmatek.com/product/air-hdts1283.php
I looked at the pdf for installation here: http://www.xigmatek.com/download/HDTS1283-usermanual.pdf
and it makes no mention of a backplate.
And yes, the backplate, goes behind the motherboard but not outside of panel.

edit: I think I found your bolt through kit and no it has no installation pdf. http://www.xigmatek.com/product/air-hdts1283.php

does the bolt through kit have a plastic film that came with it or something to that affect on the backplate on one side or another? If so, mount that side (or generally the rounded side) against the back of the motherboard. Making sure that metal from the backingplate isnt making contact with any contacts sticking through the back side of the motherboard. This may cause a short in your motherboards connections.

tl:dr? see this article on installing backplates: http://www.smartcomputing.com/edito...techsupport/107w10/107w10.asp&ArticleID=31000

its step #1 about mid way down the article.

thats how.

ok thanks, didn't know that the sticky adhesive just about had to be used, so the installatoin is easier ;o Because i heard some people say to not use the adhesive unless you never want to take the cooler off the mobo because it's really hard to get off, but idk i might do that if it'll make installation easier. But could you buy new sticky adhesives or do you just have to put the whole heatsink on the mobo before placing it in the case after using up the adhesive the first time.

okay, 1 more question how do you remove the existing push pins from the cooler?

Very carefully. ;) In all seriousness, however, look very carefully at how they are constructed... some of them are designed to NOT be removed, and in that case the only thing I've been able to do is cut off the heads of the pins with a small set of wire cutters. Not recommended unless you have no other option, though.

haha as a first resort i just bend them until they break, it's not like i'm going to go back to push pins anyway. I've pretty much vowed to myself to always bolt through

thats what most of us do anyway.... trying to take that backplate off after its stuck on there is one of the worst things ever.

Use a hair dryer, it'll come off easily. Or another trick is to just use the corners of the sticky, but leave the paper cover on the rest.
