Quick Question about DV Tapes

ok i recorded a little bit of stuff on a mini-dv tape when i got my new camera, what i was wondering is if there is any way i could simply delete whats on the tape, cause if i just try to record over it and i dont completely record over it when i press the button to go to the last scene it will go to the last scene of what i recorded the first time... please help... Thx
 
also forgot to ask one last thing, i am unable to display time/date when i transfer via Firewire to my pc, so once i get it to my pc i have no clue when it was take and at what time, it's displayed on the lcd when i am transfering, just doesnt transfer that way
