Quick question about connecting fans

I have two 80mm fans that are running exhaust in my case and I only have one motherboard header for them. They are noisy when runnng 100%, so I would like them to both be controlled by the motherboard. I was thinking of soldering the wires together to a single 3-pin header (it shouldn't exceed the +5W or whatever the header is, I'll double-check that before plugging in), but i wasn't sure if I solder the third wires (RPM monitoring one) together if it would cause issues or if I even need to bother with it. They are the same model if that matters (old Antec LED fans, not sure of the model #). Let me know if this is something that can be done or if it is just easier to wire up a +7V or +5V mod to a molex. Thanks!

(It isn't a new computer, so I'd rather not sink money into a fan controller for it)
 
Don't connect the 3rd wires together. You'll only be able to use one reliably to measure fan speeds. Retail fan Y adapters connect one fan's third wire and both fans' power and ground.
