Quick question about 3 pin splitters

I am getting the Thermaltake Frio, which incase if you don't know is push pull cooler with the heatsink in the middle. Both fans that come with the cooler are 3 PIN (non PWM obv).

What I want to do is connect both fans to the single CPU_FAN header on my motherboard using a splitter. Will this effect the performance of my fans? And will I still be able to control the RPM's of my fans through BIOS? (not respectively, one setting for both)
 
The 3rd wire is for RPM reading, both fans will run close to the same RPM but it will only read the RPM off of one fan. If the mobo has voltage control you will be able to control the speed from the BIOS, but most mobos have PWM (4 pin) control only.
 
My motherboard p8z68-v/gen3 has a 4 pin header and uses FAN Xpert.

I don't mind running them at full speed. Should I just save the trouble and buy two 3pin to 4pin molex?
 
you wont have an issue running them off the motherboard header, what BlueFireIce is saying is that, you more than likely will NOT have control of the fans through your computer

That's what I thought...that being said there would be no way to truely test what my fans are running at if they are plugged into the cpu header.

Guess I'm getting the 4 pin converters.

A 4 pin converter is a waste of time and money, it adds nothing that plugging them into the mobo header wont do, and if they are on the mobo header at least you will be able to see the RPM they are running at.

What if I plug them into the mobo and they wont run at an acceptable RPM? At least with the 4 pin I'm guarenteed full speed. Noise is not an issue.

plugging them into the mobo will be the same as plugging them into the PSU, as there is no control its going to run at full speed in either case, the mobo will just report what that full speed is.
 
......the motherboard will supply nearly the same power as a molex will, you will have no issues doing what you want, with a molex you wont know what speed it is going anyhow......

just put em on two separate headers on your mother board and problem solved for monitoring and your worry about speed......
 
Thanks guys, I'll do that then. I would use two separate headers but they are not very conveniently placed for proper cable management.
