My question is actually pretty simple. Right now I am running on the Hiper 530 Watt PSU Type-R /w 336 combined power on the 12+ rails, or about 28 amps combined.

My current setup is in my sig; after upgrading to the 8800 GTS my question is this ->

Am I hitting the hiper too hard on power and need to upgrade to a newer model in the future, or am I alright for overall power usage. I'm running everything right now completely stock, also I'm not using a pre-OC card for the GTS that may draw more power.

I haven't been able to get accruate information on the GTS power draw. Anandtech says the GTS is at load around 270 watts, and the [H] estimates this to be a little over 300.
 
IMO you'll be okay with a single GTS
If you want to upgrade I recommend the Corsair 620HX
 
I am running the exact same power supply, but I am using a 8800gts 640. I am going SLi so i am getting a 700 Watt gamestream. You will be fine with that powersupply.
 
This is sort of the same thing I'm wondering. I've got an EVGA 8800 GTX ACS3 card and on the box it says it requires a minimum of 30amps from the 12V rails. Now the Enermax Galaxy DXX 850W power supply I've got says the 12V rails are 24A max.

What I'd like to know is since the card requires 2 6 pin plugs does that mean I add the amps for the two plugs for a total of 48amps max possible or is it still only supplying 24amps? My electrical knowledge is a little rusty these days since I haven't used it much in a few years.

Please somebody tell me this PS is ok for my card.
 
It's combined rails in most new ATX spec. I also see that some of the newer PSU actually have combined watts also, this is in contrast to mine that only has 336 combined watts allocated for just the 12v rails.

From what I can gather on the GTX is that it doesn't use all that much more watts than the GTS does. I have seen many different figrues for power usage on these cards on many different websites.

For instance nvidia recommends at least 26 combined amps for the GTS. 336/12=28 amps. So I exceed those requirements, but not by a whole hell of a lot. What i'm really worried about is consistant load I put on the hiper PSU. I think as long as I don't OC anything and don't do SLI (which I can't cause i don't have an SLI board), that i'll have just enough room to run nominally.

If I do need to upgrade, i'm getting the Seasonic M12 700watt. Seasonic, I have always had very prompt and helpful customer service, very very easy RMA policy and shipping with Seasonic.

When the system is under a heavy gaming load, how do the 5V & 12V rail voltages look? Use a multimeter to measure that if at all possible. If it's impossible you will have to fudge some, by noting the bios or a software reading and adding a small amount to that to account for the voltage drop inherant in such sensing. This drifts into a grey area so the multimeter is far better but you might factor for up to 2% higher than the bios or software claims.

No, the number of plugs and wires does theoretically increase the maximum power that could be delivered "IF" the PSU were capable of that much current, but it does not change that the rating of 24A is a maximum, a sum of the 12V current on all connectors supplied by that rail.
 
Well this machine is in the process of being built. The GTX was just delivered yesterday and I'm still waiting for a few more things. I did some searching last night for a power supply that has 30+ amps on the 12V rails and I couldn't find one. In fact the one I have is as large as I could find at 24 amps on a single rail. These rails must be cumulative when used together otherwise no one would be able to run these big cards.

PC Power and Cooling. All their PSUs are single rail designs. The Silencer 750 Quad has 60A on a single 12v rail.

If you get a GTX you will need a new PSU. It may work with the Hiper for a while, but you will be overdrawing or at very least running near to full load on the PSU while in-game, it will overheat, and it /will/ die. The Seasonic will treat you well, but if cost is an issue there are less expensive options too.
