quick ? on port types, anything use a centronics type connector?

Are these port formats used today? I believe it was used in SCSI-1 and also old printers, but does anything current use this connector format? So instead of a bunch of individual pins, its like one big connector with the pins in the outside of the central shaft (for the male connector).

This page has some pics of centronics type connectors. I guess i'm looking for anything where the pins are consolidated on the outside of a shaft (for male) or receptacle (for female) as opposed to the separate pins that are used by just about everything else (vga, serial, dvi, etc)

Oh yeah, mostly concerned with external ports, but if you know of any internal ports in that shape, that'd be good to know too. are the 80-pin SCA connectors like this? I don't have anything scsi to look at :(
 
good heavens... centronics connectors. man, i haven't seen one of those since the last time i fired up the dot matrix printer on my 386...

to answer your question: almost certainly not. those were oooold scsi connectors for printers and such, i really doubt they are still in use (most modern printers are compatible with a standard parallel connector if you gotta hook 'em up to something that old).
 
still searching, what about VHDCI connectors? I haven't seen a close-up pic of one of those yet.
 
ive seen scanners and drive arrays that use centronics 50 pin external cabling.
 
those things are still used? *snort* they're older than the first pentium!
 
looks like VHCDI cables are what I'm looking for. Seems to be a high density connector with a similar overall structure to the centronics.
