Hi,

Background

Alright here is the deal. The other night my wonderful BFG 6800 died on time (3 months from point received) as always. So after about 20 minutes of diag I figured the card was shot. Great. I get cracking to find my very old MX200 card and get into the machine so I have video. Yesterday afternoonI finally get around to calling BFG and they said time of replacement is going to be at least 2 weeks no cross shipping. I guess they flooded with thier RMAs due to [insert reason here]

So I take a quick look around at some ATI stuff. X850 Pro seems to be a good choice. I know a few people who have them and like it. So I find one at Comp USSR, I mean USA, for 250. No problem, I have cash to spend. I was just hoping on a new system later this year :) After dinner I make the journey to the local Comp USA. I didn't see one on the shelf. I asked the kid behind the counter if they have them. The kid starts talking about how thier on line inventory is messed up. He goes in the back and finds one. I rush though the check out and back home. I get this puppy out of the packing. I think found something of disappointment.

From doing some research around here I found here, you want to have certain features.

My memory is Samsung 2.0 ns not 1.6 ns. Screwed for OCing? Probably!
S/N 180537 XXXXXX

It seems ATI now regulates the memory for less OCing. 1000/2.0=500 I am also thinking they don't want people to try unlocking the other pipes or these are true 16 Pipes rejects. 2.0 Ram is just stopping up before we get involved. Should i even dare to flash the card with a XT BIOS? I would have like to have the fan control and temperature monitoring. What are your thoughts to what I should do.

Even $250 CAD for an X850 Pro would be too much, x800GTO^2 is cheaper, and better, and has VIVO on the newer ones.

QFT. My x800GTO2 can OC easily to x850xtpe speeds with no flash and with 16 pipes (ymmv of course). But if you go withthe x800gto2, spend a few more bucks for the VIVO... it's worth it

Hi,

Didn't know there was a GTO. Otherwise everything runs fine with this card. I don't think I will OC it or anything. I will probably get an ATI siliencer 5 and call it even. As long as I can game, I am happy. I am not into the full tweaking scene. I have better uses for my time :)

If you're not overclocking you should just keep the stock cooler, because if it artifacts you can RMA it easily.

Will take that into advisement. However my main question revolved around getting some kind of fan control and temp read out. I read about flashing to XT then back just to get those features unlocked. I wanted to make sure I read those threads right.
