#1 Can the DS-24E be set sideways (tower style) on a shelf? I'm concerned about the plastic rail that extends from the handle. It would be going onto steel (Metro) shelving.

#2 Is the only difference between the DS-24E and DS-24ER the redundant psu?

#3 Is it possible to buy a DS-24E without a psu? I'd like to put a Seasonic gold or platinum in there.

#4 Are there any issues with Intel m1015's and the internal expanders in the DS-24E. I'd obviously need a bracket to take the internal sas to external.

#5 I would replace the stock fans with Nexus D12SL-12's. The DS-24E would be located about two feet from the desk where I work. Would it be quiet after the fan swap? I have a few machines in Fractal Define cases with Nexus D12SL-12's in the same spot the DS-24E would occupy. I'm trying to achieve roughly the same noise level with the DS-24E.

1) The plastic piece only exists on the left side. You could set it on the right side.
2) Yes
3) Not that I'm aware of. You could replace the PS and sell the included one, but I think that's your only option.
4) Can't answer this one
5) There's still a lot of fans in the case. Quiet is a relative term. It would be quieter, but not what I would consider quiet. In my 4224, I used fan controllers to lower the RPM of the fans, and saw a negligible increase in HD temp. You could try that as well (just make sure you monitor the HD temps before and after).
