here is yet another CPU cooler modded to fit a chipset. our victim this time is one of those old microfin socketA coolers that came with the thin little green fan on top. you guys remember those right? they can still be found for about 4 bucks. rip the fan and shroud off, grind a semicircle in each side about 1/4" deep and either zip tie it on there like i did (the case it lives in has no window) or make a simple retention bar. i am idling at 24C and loading at 28C after an hour of prime95. CPU is a mobile barton at 2588 (225*11.5) so you know i am stressing the NB a bit at 225FSB. compund is AS5.
This worked out so well i am cutting the center channel in my stock A64 cooler wider so that i can put it on my AN8 and slip my VGA card in there. (damn card sits centered over the NB)
