Quick help with eVGA 6800

Ok, I have a sapphire radeon 9800se at the moment. I was about to purchase a 9800 pro or xt but what would you guys say to getting this card instead?

eVGA 6800

What are the drawbacks? Would I see a lot better performance between this and the 9800se and the 9800pro? Also, will this card softmod to anything? Thanks in advance.

I don't have enough cash to get the GT :( I wanted a PNY :(
 
there is nothing wrong with a eVGA, it just doesn't come pre-overclocked.
 
Are any of the regular 6800's able to be softmoded to open up the disabled 4 pipes?
 
I dont know if the egg has them anymore but eVGA had a 6800 Limited Edition that was just a rebadged 6800 ULTRA. Same 16 Pipes and 6 Vertex Shaders, cept the Core ran at 325 mhz instead of the ULTRA 400 mhz. Ram remaind the same as the ULTRA at 1100 mhz. VERY GOOD DEAL for $325. To bad I found out about this info AFTER I got my 6800 GT, oh well still love this card.
 
Welp, I just placed the order at the egg :) I looked for the LE, but they don't carry them anymore...that would have been sweet though. I'm really hoping I wont have too much of a hard time opening up those extra pipes though. I had no luck with my 9800se, so lets see if I can't break that trend...yes, I'm cheap :( Thanks for the input guys.
 
6800 all the way man those 9800xt are a rip of charging u close to 300 if not 300 for crap performance compared to a 6800, i own a 9800pro right now hehe but yea i would go for the 6800, my friend bought a EVGA 6800 nu he was able to unlock his pipelines and all right now it runs close to a GT good bang for the buck $265
 
Zipzoomfly has them (thanks supernac). That where I got mines (should be here Tuesday).
It is the same price with faster shipping.
 
I have limited experience with a eVGA 6800nu but I can tell you this....I used one of those in a rig I built for a coworker and was able to unlock 16 pipes with Rivatuner as well as oc it to 390/800. He has been running it like that for several weeks now with no problems. ;)

I think that you will be very pleased with your purchase. I think that the worst case scenario is that you'll only be able to enble the 1 extra vp or the 4 extra pipelines and not both. According to what I have seen, you stand about a 50% chance of getting both. Either way, you should get some free performance.
