Quick FIOS question about using Cat5

I am going to build a pfsense box. Now my FIOS uses the coax cable. Can i just call up Verizon and have them activate the Ethernet on the box in the basement then run a Cat5 cable to my pfsense box? Is that how it works? Will they always activate it for me? Why not always have it activated?
 
They need to switch it in your account, yes, but yo can of course run the cat5 yourself. If you have FiOS TV, you need to get MoCA back running somehow for your STBs to work properly. Either use the Actiontec again or buy a Motorola NIM-100.

I only get Internet. I was planning to runt he Cat5 errr 6, myself. So i just call them and tell em to switch it on?
