I've noticed alot of people aren't really into the preassembled kits. I'm thinking about either going and putting together a dangerden kit or running the exos. Money is a big issue and the rig I'm going w/ is a AMD64 3200+ w/ Abit AV8 mobo. I'm not sure about vid cards and whatnot yet. I am hoping to OC it to 3500 or more. The dangerden kit I'm looking at would include:
Waterblock: TDX
Rad:Black Ice Pro
Fan:120mm Sunon
Pump: Ehiem 1048 or the hydor L20
Price: $161

Koolance Exos
Price: $175

Or
Dtek Customs
Block: Tc-4
Pump: Eheim 1048
Price $200

I do like the LCD on the Koolance but I don't really like the external. I was also thinking about possibly adding a gpu or chipset block depending. There is also the possibility of going faster in the future. What do you guys think. Thanks..

the spir@l is a better block than the TC-4 from what i've heard.

Go for the DangerDen kit, or get a swiftech kit, and swap out the rad for a heatercore.

actually get a heatercore rad anyways. Cheaper and performs on par if not better.

If you run multiple blocks, run multiple rads. Don't want to run into the prob I have now.

Have a cpu and gpu block. Runs pretty cool, until I start gaming. Water hits the rad, then the proc. After the prob, it does directly to the gpu. After a couple hours of gaming, the thing overheats and the comp freezes.

I shouldv'e bought a 2nd rad when I got a gpu block. Well...ones on the way now.

I don't really agree with you krotch, I've got an Athlon XP Barton 2000+ @ 2200 mhz, a GeForce 4 and the chipset wtercooled, all on a single 120mm fan rad in a 1/4 low-flow system.

Could you have made some sort of error while installing yours?

look at the rig in my sig link

That system can run at full gaming load in a 100f room all day and still not overheat....actually I don't even turn it off unless I'm going on vacation.

One rad. It's all in matching your block layout to your rad and pump combo. Actually I could get even better cooling if I was to move my resevoir to the suction end of the pump, instead of right after my radiator.

For reference I am running a 31c cpu temp at the moment.

I think you'r wrong krotch, adding a second rad would SIGNIFIGANTLY reduce flowrate and head. By doing so i'd think you'd severely cripple performance.

Opt for a Heatercore in place of a rad, they are cheaper, and often better. DD has ready built heatercores for like $29.99, no soldering or anything necessary. If you have the space though i'd go for a dual 120mm heatercore (the big mofos on DD), if not the $29.99 single would be perfect. The only advantage rads have is that they are painted (woo big deal, not worth the extra $40), and if you want a painted heatercore 2fresh has been selling many, check for his thread in the fs/ft forum.

In the Dtek kit you picked a TC-4, I believe this is the worst of the three blocks they sell lol. The White Water is assuredly the best, in fact its the best waterblock there is ... aside from the cascade (which you can't buy). Cathar has proven to be a jewel to the wc industry and has the two best blocks there are, the WW and the Cascade. If you cant afford or justify the WW block ($49.99 ... its cheap anyways, on sale), then go with the DD setup, I would not recomend that TC-4 though.

Same with pump, you picked Eheim1048 in two of your kits. IMHO this will not cut it with jet-impingement blocks (TDX or WW). These are the new gen of blocks and they require a high head to perform well, in fact the TDX and RBX DD blocks perform HORRIBLY at lower head, I would suggest you get an Eheim 1250 if you wanna stick with eheim products, the 1048 willl just lead to headaches and you wont enjoy your setup as much :(

I wouldn't recomend the Exos, but thats cuz I HATE KITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AGGGGG lol

Anyways don't get me started on why, just trust me I do. Besides DIY is mad easy to do, its just buy the three parts (Heatercore, CPU Block, Pump), some tubing, and connect them all into a loop, its really not that hard lol.

What id recomend ....

TDX Block ($52.95) OR White Water Block ($49.99) (O look its cheaper anyways, get the WW =P)

Eheim 1250 ($59.00)

Heatercore from DD ($29.99), or DOUBLE Heatercore ($34.99) (GO for this if you can!!)

120mm Sunon (~$10)

You'll want a shroud for the fan, make one out of cardboard, or BLOW $13.95 on one at DD (Way overpriced if you ask me, but meh).

10' Tubing (Clearflex or Tygon, its your choice, tygon's only advantages are that its a 'little' more flexible' and stays clear longer apparently, I have clearflex, its good. Get more then needed ... just in case ... you'll see, you'll use it eventually lol) ($15)

Hose Clamps (Home Depot, $0.25 each, you'll need about 15) ($4)

You'll need a Y-Fitting if you get the WW block ($2), and i'm assuming you're not going with a res setup, in that case you'll need a T-Fitting which is again ($2).]

Overall: $172-$194

Alright I ordered pretty much everything you just said. Thanks a ton. I do have a question. Where do I get the White Water block? Thanks! :)
