Replacing a PSU fan in a Shuttle. The stock fan is 2 wire and I have a 3 - If I leave the 3rd(white)unused will the fan automatically run at full speed?
 
the third cable is for measuring rpm of fan for computer. Not sure if computer uses that for it's speed calculation or if it only uses the temp.
try it, and tell us.
 
serpretetsky is correct, the computer just uses the third wire for sensing fan speed and you dont need it for this application, If you had a 4 wire fan the 4th wire would be for PWM speed control and then there would be some question as to how fast the fan would run with it unhooked.

You have likely arleady hooked it up, but anyway - go ahead it will run at 100% or it may be the power supply uses some voltage control to adjust fan speed based on power supply temp but either way you dont need the 3rd wire and it should work fine.
 
Mr. Parrish , long time no "see". You've helped me out before with watercooling. I was pretty much under the assumption that it wouldn't matter( white wire) and yes , it was actually already installed. I just didn't think it put out as much cfm as it should. I ran IBT for awhile and I do think the RPMs came up so it's probably working fine. I was just hoping for more out of the fan.
