Im trying to figure out the best way to distribute stats. I plan on using guns mostly mid-long range. I was thinking about using a "cheat" to make my strength 10 (only for weight bonus as im not going for melee) and wanted to know if you gain stats in your s.p.e.c.i.a.l. thing after the initial 33? Overall how many do you get when ur lvl 20 to mess with?

I don't want to obviously make myself super strong with the cheat I just want to increase my weight limit simply because I hate running back to sell everything. What are your thoughts?

Decide for yourself? And I believe the only perma hard stat boost you can get after the initial distribution is through perks.

I was thinking the same thing, the only thing that's preventing me from doing so is the fact that any time I do use a "cheat" it ends up killing the game.

don't cheat, you have to play with the games limitations imo. if you want to not spend the time to run back more often, then you will have to lose stat points in other areas. +/- for each. it makes it harder which is more fun anyway!

Fallout is a game based on limitations and living with those limitations. It's a lot less fun being the super character in Fallout games. I know in FO1 they rewrote the script for really dumb characters so that was a new experience for those that wanted to do it.

I want to play the way its meant to but I dont want to have to carry a small amount. I used a mod in oblivion which was like an infinite backpack mod. I liked this and found it more fun. I have no problem playing the way it is I just prefer to carry alot and the only way I think I can do it and use guns vs melee and not suck is to max strength, unless of course someone comes out with a mod. I think maxing strength and usings guns wont make me any stronger. Just will carry alot more.

so that means the initial 33 are the only stats I can choose besides that perk that allows extra stats?

Cheating will spoil the game.

Decide which perks you need the least of and dump them down a bit, a good rule of thumb would be to dump them all down by 1 to 4, which was a safe minimum in FO and FO2 , it wasn't really restrictive. Dump luck down to 1 and spend the rest of the points in other areas you want to boost.

After level 2 you get a perk which allows an additional skill point which you can use 10 times to increase your base stats, and if FO3 is anything like FO2 you will find special events in the game which will allow perm stat upgrades, although not likely to be many.

Luck was one of the best skills to have.

I dumped charisma to 1. I just kill stuff when talking does no good.

get the plus 50 weight perk...you don't really need to carry around that much stuff it isn't worth it after the first couple hours. You cant just sell everything as npcs have set cash. I used my first few loads of crap to exchange for some stimpacks. Don't cheat, at least not your first time through. I'm playing a pure melee character and even though I have high strength and melee skill I can't do things like bash open a door or hack a computer. I'm not going to cheat and put my lock picking to 100 because I should be able to bash it - that would be similar to setting my strength to 10 so I could carry more...

See, now THIS is the way to play Fallout. By not being lazy and childish. Think in strats about your stats and how you want to play. Instead of cheating. You do realize cheating has a negative connotation for a REASON, right? It's not a bending of rules, it's breaking.

Anyhow, you're only cheating yourself by cheating. So good luck with that.

haha you sound like im cheating at a test. Its a game. If i have more fun setting str to 10 then it should be ok :D If it will ruin it I can just start over. No big deal.

OK... I'll admit. I gave myself enough caps to deck out my house pre-war style. Hobo-shack FTL.

Pretty sad that you can't enjoy a game WITHOUT cheating.

Its a single player game, I say live and let live. All we should do is alert him of the potential downsides cheating has. Making this a moral discussion will only lead to this thread's downfall.

If I was asian, I would tell you that the habits that go into the little things you do tend to translate into the big things that you do.

Im just trying to enjoy the game more the way I like it. Everyone has their preference. I just want the WEIGHT LIMIT increased because i find it tedious to keep running back.

I dont want to ruin the game mechanics if I give myself more stats. I was asking if it would do so. If it does I could obviously lay off but I saw no real problem with upping the weight limit so i can carry more. Thats all lol.

Well, hard to say. I'm not sure if anyone has beat Fallout 3 yet. Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, if you had high Str, it would certainly give additional options that you normally wouldn't have if you didn't have high Str. That was part of the appeal of the Fallout series. However, it won't be a game breaker. It would just... diminish what makes Fallout 3, a Fallout game.

I think if you cheat in this game, you have failed the G.O.A.T. test. ;)

so that means the initial 33 are the only stats I can choose besides that perk that allows extra stats?

There are also some quests you can complete and bobble heads you can collect later in the game to increase your SPECIAL stats permanently. I completed a quest last night that gave me a choice between a permanent 1 point boost to my Strength or Perception. Also, there are various different pieces of armor that provide SPECIAL stat bonuses while equipped.

You probably won't see any armor that provides a bonus to strength though until you're able to get your hands on some power armor.

Ah. So it's less like Fallout 1 and more like Fallout 2 in that aspect.

Then are we probably looking at a total of 5 stat points increased?

I've decided to just raise my charisma to 6 with a cheat and leave the rest at 1. Ill deal with the STR later on i guess. Thanks for the help guys

Using a cheat to raise your Charisma... There is a life lesson there somewhere. :)
