When i click on the external drive it freezes for like 15 seconds how would i keep it so it is always able to respond as good as an internal?

Its a Seagate 400GB

Do you have a flash drive or even better another external hard drive available you can use to verify that the problem is your drive?

I'm going to venture a guess that you're having to wait for the drive to spin up before it accepts requests from the OS. That means it's going into a power saving mode for some reason or another; I'd prefer not to speculate as to why it would without more information.

YUP EXACTLY!! it does go into a power saving mode. How would i take that off??

See if there's a setting for it in Windows power management. Otherwise, consult the documentation/website for the drive. Outside of that, I don't know.
